Behind The Scenes | The Making Of 'Chikankari' Tunic

I want to explain here the making of one of our garments that will ease your curiosities.

THE VEDA BELIEVES IN TRUE SUSTAINABILITY

Here is an amazing journey that starts with hand-drawn sketches, pattern designs, and notes deeply rooted in vintage inspirations, and with this design the fusion of the traditional motifs with a modern silhouette. This will develop into its originality, making this piece unique on its own.

The pattern is then embossed with removal blue ink with intricate details on delicate natural gauze cotton that follows the shoulder line, down the chest in a panel of a single thread, hand embroidered by artisans.

The embroidery process involves hand stenciling a scale-specific pattern inline  and, from then, left in the mastered hands of a team of Artisan women in India.

"The timeless symphony of colors and patterns brought about by the meticulous, lengthy process of embroidery making is irreplaceable. That, indeed, is luxury in every sense of the word".

It is talent passed down throughout artisan's generations and, in some cases, the only skill they have to earn a fair living.

The Chikankari Tunic was intended to be a staple piece that can work its way into your everyday closet as a tasteful, light, sustainable summer blouse.

The Veda selectively works with local artisans in India and mediates its collaborations so that all benefits and fair wages go directly to the artisans and their immediate communities. Through extensive relationship building, The Veda can oversee the creation of each and every piece handmade piece in India.

The Chikankari Tunic is tailored in exclusive, slow fashion, breathable fashion limited numbers. Every Chikankari Tounic is handmade in India, which means that none of the Chikankari Tunic are exactly the same. Each piece of our ethical fashion brand is, just like every human being.
